Until a comet receives a number, periodic comets with periods greater than twenty years may be listed as long-period

A comet is categorized as "sun-looking" if it was discovered in a sun-looking survey

Sun-looking surveys: SOHO/SWAN (249) and STEREO A/B (C49/C50)

A comet is categorized as "opposition-looking" if it was discovered in an opposition-looking survey

Opposition-looking surveys are considered all observatories not listed as sun-looking
